Formulation of the Project for Agricultural Valorization of Small Dams (ProValAB) in Burkina Faso
Burkina Faso has approximately 1300 water dams, which is a huge potential for climate change adaptation and for income generation for the local population. The national program for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM/GIRE), co-funded by Sweden, aims to achieve sustainable and equitable use of water in the country. Through its five Water Agencies (Agences de l’Eau), the GIRE program has the responsibility to promote equitable and sustainable use of the water dams.
The primary objective of the “Project for Reducing Vulnerability of Small Dams to Climate Change (PRVPB-CC)”, financed by Sweden during 2010-2016 was the rehabilitation and construction of small dams.
On the basis of a contract with the Embassy of Sweden, the consultancy firm SIPU conducted a mission to Burkina Faso between September and November 2016, carrying out the final evaluation of the “Project for Reducing Vulnerability of Small Dams to Climate Change (PRVPB-CC)” and the formulation of a draft Project Document for the future “Project of Agricultural Valorization of Small Dams (ProValAB)”.
The objective of the mission is to finalize the project document of the future “Project of Agricultural Valorization of Small Dams (ProValAB)” through support to the DGAHDI of the Ministry of Agriculture and Hydraulic Development of Burkina Faso.
