Fund Management

Competitive funds as a means to promote ownership and innovation

Challenge funds and other competitive financing facilities are increasingly being used by donors to reach out to local small and medium-sized enterprises or civil society organisations. They allow the target organisation to define their own priorities and project plans, within the objectives and criteria defined by the donor, and present their project application in a competitive process where the proposals that are considered most relevant and feasible are selected for financing. As fund managers, we support the donor through the whole process of marketing, selection, contracting, financial administration and follow-up.

What we do

  • On behalf of donors, we administer challenge funds and other financing facilities, ensuring an efficient, effective and transparent management of funds.
  • When contracted as fund managers, we can manage the whole process: inviting organisations, through competitive calls for proposals, to present project applications for grant financing; assessing and selecting the proposals that best meet the predefined criteria; signing agreements; administering disbursements of donor fund resources; monitoring implementation; and supporting grantees with technical and administrative functions. We adhere to clear and strict procedures for disbursement, quality control and auditing.
  • We manage funds in  a wide range of areas, including: support to inclusive value chain development in agriculture and community-based forestry; business and market development for emerging entrepreneurs; enhancing access to renewable energy sources and low cost, climate-friendly technologies; funds for strengthening public sector organisations, capacity building and education; and support to civil society organisations in human rights and democracy interventions.
